What do you do with the Pokémon TCG Live code that comes in your booster? Many booster packs, Elite Trainer Boxes and decks include a code card. If you are opening your first pack, you may wonder whether it is a normal card. It is not. It is a credit for the digital version of the game, and you can redeem it in a few minutes.

What is a Pokémon TCG Live code?

Pokémon TCG Live is the official app where you play the card game digitally. The code card in your pack gives you something there. The front shows an 11-character code and a QR code. The back is just artwork, so you can tell right away it is not a playable card. Not every product contains one: single cards do not, and some products state on the packaging or in the description that a code is included. So always check.

How to redeem a TCG Live code

You need a Pokémon account and the app. Open the shop menu in the app and choose the tab to redeem a code. Scan the QR code with your camera or type the code in. Every code works only once, so a used code card is worth nothing anymore. You can enter several codes in a row and collect them all at once. The exact buttons in the app may be named differently after an update, so follow what you see on screen.

If you open several packs in a row, put the code cards on a separate pile. That way you can count them easily and do not throw one away with the empty wrapper. Scan them all in one go afterwards, which is faster than opening the app each time. If you got a code card from someone else, ask whether it has been used yet, because every code works only once.

What do you get for it?

That depends on the product. A booster code gives you a digital booster from the same expansion. So you do not get the exact same cards as in your physical pack. A deck usually contains digital cards, and an Elite Trainer Box mainly gives in-game items such as a deck box or sleeves for the app. Limits apply per product and per set. Once you reach them, you receive a small amount of crafting currency instead. These limits start again when a new set appears in the app.

What if you do not play digitally?

Then the code card is just a piece of paper. Put it aside before you sleeve your cards, so it does not end up in your collection. As long as it is still valid, you can redeem it later or give it to a friend who uses the app. Digital cards cannot be converted into physical ones, so your binder collection does not change because of it.

Want to get started yourself? Browse our booster packs and pick the set you want to open. Keep the code card, scan it and keep playing in the app.
