Why play on a playmat?
A playmat is a soft, flexible mat you lay your cards on during a match. It protects your cards from the rough texture of a wooden or stone table, which over time causes scratches and wear on the edges of your sleeved cards.
Most playmats have a rubber underside that stays in place during play, and a smooth top so cards slide easily when you move or shuffle them. The standard TCG size is large enough for a full playing field with active card, bench and energy zone.

Choosing a playmat: what to look for
Check the thickness, a thinner mat is more compact to carry, a thicker mat feels more comfortable and cushions better. Never roll the mat with the printed side inward while it is still damp, to avoid the surface becoming sticky over time.
A playmat does not replace a deck box or binder, it only protects during play itself. Pair it freely with sleeves for the cards and a deck box for transport.
