Using sleeves and toploaders together
Most collectors and players do not use sleeves and toploaders separately, but together, each for a different purpose. A sleeve is the basic protection every card deserves against scratches and fingerprints during everyday handling. A toploader adds a hard layer for cards you really want to preserve: expensive pulls, rares, or cards you want to ship or get graded.
For your most valuable cards you often combine both: first a penny sleeve, then a toploader around it. That way the card is protected against both scratches and bending.
